Made in Canada, Made for You: Custom Wood Furniture at Rainsford

Made in Canada, Made for You: Custom Wood Furniture at Rainsford

There is something special about finding a piece of furniture that feels as though it was made for your home and not simply selected from a warehouse.

At Rainsford Company, we are proud to offer Canadian-made solid wood furniture that can be personalized to suit your room, your style and the way your family lives. With choices in wood, finishes, hardware, surfaces and, in many cases, dimensions, these pieces offer a thoughtful alternative to mass-produced furniture.

Customization does not have to feel complicated. With the right guidance, it can be one of the most enjoyable parts of creating a home.

Why Buying Canadian Matters

Choosing Canadian-made furniture offers premium quality, supports local craftspeople, family-run businesses and a long tradition of furniture making closer to home.

It also offers something increasingly difficult to find: a connection between the people making the furniture, the materials being used and the customer who will ultimately live with it.

These solid wood pieces are designed with real homes in mind. They are practical, full of character and intended to remain useful long after a passing trend has disappeared. Rather than settling for a predetermined colour or size, customers can help shape a piece that feels more personal and works better within their space.

Start With a Design You Love

Custom furniture does not always mean starting from scratch. We have selected pieces that have a hertiage appeal and remain versatile.

Most often, the process begins with an existing table, dresser, sideboard, bed or cabinet that already has the right overall design. From there, we can explore the details that make it uniquely suited to your home.

That may include choosing a painted, stained or two-tone finish, changing the hardware, selecting a different wood surface or adjusting the dimensions of certain tables and cabinets.

The original design provides the foundation. Your selections make it yours and can truly change the entire look of the piece.

Pine, Birch and Wood Character

The type of wood influences both the appearance of the furniture and the way a finish looks.

Pine has a warm, traditional feeling, with visible grain, knots and natural variation. Birch can offer a cleaner appearance, although it also has natural highs and lows that become particularly noticeable under lighter stains.

The same stain may appear slightly different on each wood species, even when the overall tone remains consistent. Seeing samples on the appropriate wood will help you understand how the finished piece will look.

At Rainsford, we can guide you toward a surface with more natural character or one that feels quieter and more refined. We have lots of sample finishes and sample pieces in store.

Choose Your Finish & Hardware

Finish is one of the most transformative decisions.

Stains allow the wood grain to remain visible. Lighter stains reveal more natural variation, while deeper stains create a richer and often more uniform look.

Painted finishes provide a softer, cleaner appearance and allow colour to become part of the room’s design. All of our pieces are able to be painted in any Benjamin Moore or Farrow & Ball paint colour. For more depth and patina, glazed paint or glazed stain can create a layered, gently aged effect.

Two-tone finishes are another favourite, particularly for dining tables, islands and sideboards. A stained wood top paired with a painted base offers warmth and contrast.

Hardware provides another opportunity to personalize the furniture. Traditional wood knobs feel quiet and classic, while metal pulls and handles can make the same piece feel more tailored or contemporary.

Many larger cabinets, dressers, sideboards and armoires now also include concealed soft-close drawer glides, adding a practical and polished detail to everyday use.

Made to Fit Real Homes

Standard dimensions do not always work in real rooms.

Selected tables may be available in adjusted lengths or widths, while many larger cabinets can be modified in height, width or depth. For more specialized spaces, fully custom tables and cabinets may also be quoted.

This flexibility can make all the difference when a sideboard needs to fit between two windows, a cabinet must be shallower for a hallway or a dining table needs to accommodate a specific number of chairs.

Many larger cabinets, dressers, sideboards and armoires now also include concealed soft-close drawer glides, adding a practical and polished detail to everyday use.

The Rainsford Difference

A wide range of options can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming.

That is where shopping with a boutique makes a meaningful difference. At Rainsford, we help narrow the choices by considering where the piece will live, how it will be used and how you want the room to feel.

You bring us your measurements and an idea of what you love. We will help guide you through the wood, finish, hardware and customization options to create furniture that feels truly at home in your space.
