2026 Interior Design Trends: What We're Embracing and Leaving Behind

Not every trend deserves a place in your home.

At Rainsford Company, we don’t chase what’s loud or fleeting. Our approach to design has always been about restraint, longevity, and creating spaces that feel good to live in, today and years from now. As we look ahead to 2026, there are a few popular movements we’re intentionally stepping away from, and a clearer vision of what we’re embracing instead.

What We’re Leaving Behind

Overly Curved Furniture
Curves have had their moment. While soft lines can be beautiful, exaggerated silhouettes often dominate a space, limit flexibility, and date quickly. We’re moving away from furniture that prioritizes shape over comfort and longevity.

The Tuscan Revival
Heavy plaster, faux-aged finishes, ornate detailing, this return to Old World styling feels more theatrical than livable. Highly themed interiors leave little room to evolve and rarely age well.

Brown Everything
Warm neutrals matter, but a head-to-toe brown palette flattens a space. Without contrast, rooms lose clarity, light, and energy.

What We’re Embracing Instead

Quiet Structure
Clean, confident lines softened by thoughtful proportions and materials. Furniture that anchors a room without defining it and and adapts as your space evolves.

Warmth Through Materials, Not Themes
Natural woods, tactile textiles, and finishes that age gracefully. Warmth should come from substance, not stylistic references.

Layered Neutrals with Contrast
Soft whites, warm woods, subtle pattern, and depth through texture. Calm, considered palettes that feel light but grounded.

Spaces That Leave Room for Living
Homes shouldn’t feel overstyled or finished all at once. We’re embracing interiors that feel collected, flexible, and genuinely lived in.

The Rainsford Perspective

Good design doesn’t need to announce itself. It should feel intuitive, balanced, and enduring—supporting real life rather than dictating it.

In 2026, our focus remains the same: fewer trends, better choices, and interiors you won’t feel the need to explain five years from now.

Less noise. More intention.

Happy New Year!
