Design Tips
You don't always notice when you've entered that perfectly styled living space, it's simply a feeling you get; relaxed and as though the space is truly lived in. If you take a closer look at these rooms there tend to be four key elements that are part of this relaxing recipe. We've rounded up the 4 pieces (assuming you already have a couch and a coffee table, of course!) you need to help you pull together a perfectly styled living space.
Piece #1. The Right Sized Rug
Too often, rugs look like postage stamps in living room spaces. We know rugs can be expensive and feel like a big commitment, but they are critical to making your living room feel well proportioned and cozy. Living rooms almost always need at least an 8' x 10' rug or larger. As a general rule of thumb, ensure at least the front legs of all pieces of furniture are on the rug. For more rug tips, head here.
Piece #2. Lamps
There's a reason why we didn't suggest lighting in general. The warmth offered by lamp lighting in particular, is perfect for creating a cozy feeling, especially at night. Lamps are such an important decorative element in a living space, that we suggest buying high quality lamps in classic shapes with shades made of natural materials (no shiny fabrics!) that will transition with you as your rooms evolve over time.
Piece #3. Baskets
Natural elements are having a huge design moment right now, but if you're into classic design, you'll know baskets have been around forever and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Admittedly, we are a bit basket-crazy, but we'd argue that no room needs baskets more than your living space. Use them as trays, storage for pillows and throws, or as decorative accents on shelving. No living room is complete without at least one!

Piece #4. Pillows
You knew this was coming, didn't you?! Showing off your style with throw pillows is the simplest and most effective way to add your own personal touch to your space. Make sure you mix up the sizes, shapes and patterns of your pillows to offer visual interest. We suggest keeping two main colours in your space throughout all 4 seasons and then switching up the accent colours throughout the year as the seasons change. Remember: Invest in the foundational pieces for your living space and you'll be able to add the decorative pieces in over time. It doesn't all have to be completed in a weekend!
